When something happens: what to do, in order.

A simple sequence to keep in mind. It does not replace the terms of your policy.

The steps

  1. 01

    Make the scene safe

People come first. If possible move to a safe place, switch on the hazard lights and use the warning triangle and high visibility vest after a road accident.

  2. 02

    In an emergency call 112

If anyone is injured, or there is danger or a situation you cannot manage, call the European emergency number 112.

  3. 03

    Collect details and photos

Note the place, date and time. Photograph the damage and the scene. Take the details of the people involved and of any witnesses.

  4. 04

    Motor: CAI form

For road accidents, if possible fill in the joint accident report form (CAI, constatazione amichevole) with the other driver, signed by both.

  5. 05

    Contact the agency

Call the agency on +39 011 020 9640 for guidance on the next steps required by your policy.

Useful documents to keep at hand

  • Policy number or policy document
  • Identity document
  • Completed CAI form (motor claims)
  • Photos of the damage
  • Any reports from the authorities who attended
  • Invoices, estimates or receipts relating to the damage

A generic list: the documents required depend on the type of claim and on the policy. Reporting terms and procedures are set out in the policy conditions and must be checked with the agency.
